Parenting Is Prevention

Magna Systems was contracted by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention to conduct a national, multicultural parent focused prevention demonstration project. The project used a parent training curriculum where several groups of parents were brought together to be trained as parent leaders forpeer‐to‐peer youth substance abuse prevention. The parents were drawn from across the U.S. and from many different ethnic populations, including African Americans, Asian American and Pacific Islanders Hispanics/Latinos, and Native Americans. A group of collaborating partners, representing each of these ethnic groups, participated in the project as consultants and Advisory Committee members. The PIPProject made special efforts to reach and train parents from these multicultural populations. A parent mobilizing manual was produced by the project and translated into Spanish. The Project Director for PIP spoke fluent Spanish and made presentations to Spanish Speaking groups.
